When HipJot, the note-taking iPhone app that includes a “Two-hand slide” keyboard that is capable of letting you type at speeds up to 120WPM hit the App Store, a number of readers wanted to know if it there was a jailbreak tweak that would let them use the custom keyboard with other apps.
The keyboard is quite similar to Swype, in that you can swipe your fingers over the keyboard rather than tapping on each letter. You can in fact swipe with both fingers simultaneously which gives your typing speed a boost over the Swype keyboard.
We’ve some good news, the developer is indeed working on a tweak that will replace the native iOS keyboard with the “two-hand slide” keyboard.
A reddit user has posted a screenshot (seen below), which shows the HipJot keyboard working with the Notes app.
The reddit user also notes that the tweak will be available for free for users who have purchased the HipJot app from the App Store. It is not clear when it will be released, but the reddit user claims that a public beta could be released sometime in the near future.
Check out the video of the HipJot keyboard in action below:
Apple hasn’t allowed third-party developers to create custom, system-wide keyboards, so developers are doing the next best thing possible — creating standalone apps with their custom keyboard, and using the jailbreak route to replace the native iOS keyboard with their keyboard. Developers of Fleksy recently released a tweak called Fleksy Enabler that lets users to use their custom keyboard across iOS.
We’re quite excited, and can’t wait for the HipJot tweak to hit Cydia. What about you? Let me know in the comments below.
