How is Battery Life on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch after updating to iOS 7.1?

Apple released iOS 7.1 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch earlier in the week with number of new features, refinements, improvements and bug fixes.

We noticed quite a significant impact on battery life when we upgraded from iOS 6.x to iOS 7,  so the question for today’s poll is: how is battery life on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch after updating it to iOS 7.1?

Based on the Wi-Fi battery life test carried out by folks at ArsTechnica, there hasn’t been a major impact on battery life after upgrading to iOS 7.1. As you can see in the chart below, there have been small gains and small loses across iOS devices, which could be considered to be within the margin of error.

iOS 7.1 does not include any major features so ideally there should not be any major impact on battery life, but I’ve seen few users complaining on Twitter that the battery life has worsened after upgrading to iOS 7.1. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fix for the geofencing issue in forced closed apps.

Please take this poll below and let us know what has been your experience, and please feel free to leave a comment if you like to elaborate.

You should also add: “I haven’t upgrade to preserve my jailbreak”. That’s where I’m at.

      Likewise :D

I was tempted to add it, but then decided against it as I thought it wasn’t relevant to the poll as this was meant for people who have already upgraded to iOS 7.1.

I beg to differ because if 90% of your audience hasn’t upgraded because of this, your stats will be skewed.

I wish I had ArsTechnica iDevices so that I could enjoy a better battery life. Lots of us are having issues with this new battery drain, which I am sure Apple will deny. I think my iPhone has lost a 15%-20% of its battery life since I updated.

Ha ha ha!! The best reply yet.

Just a thought, location services have a great deal to do with battery drain, Apple did supposedly fix issues with Apps that used location services after they had been force closed. Just a theory but my guess is after the upgrade a lot more apps are working with location services when they aren’t open, specifically ones that had issues before the upgrade.

It’s pretty much the same but it deffinetly has not gotten worse :9

My battery life seems completely unaffected by 7.1.
It’s neither gotten better or worse.

My phone shuts off at 20% still

Seems that every time there is any sort of update to IOS (or OSX), there are complaints about battery life. The ArsTechnica results are reasonable – there will be some gains, some losses with every update since every update changes something. 7.1 is no different. For me, on my iPhone 5 (64gb stock, not jailbroken since 7.0) IOS 7 was a noticeable gain in battery performance. 7.1 seems perhaps a touch better but at least not worse. Normal use, starting at 100% each morning, my phone ends the day at 55% 65%.

Assuming that each phone is made with the same hardware components, the remaining variable would have to be consumption by different apps.

We all know iPhone is horrible in battery life! It does not matter what they do to the damn code. I have never gotten more than 6hrs on a charge for 5s so far.

Better on wifi, worse when 3G in on.. iPhone 5 A1428

I think it’s the same because battery and wifi no batter 4,4s and other phone too for app and cydia erro when I reset it lose.

After upgrading to iOS 7, my iPad 3 had problems charging and my battery drained very quickly. iOS 7.1 fixed all of that for me

My iPad mini was only about 72 days old when I updated it to the iOS 7 GM. I have noticed a slight drop in battery life from iOS 6.1.X (from 13 hours to ~12 hours). I would say that is really impressive considering my own definition of normal use (which is mostly browsing + reading e-books).

Now on iOS 7.1, I can barely get past 10 hours of my normal usage. I will try to do a clean install though. Hopefully that fixes some OTA update messed-up bugs.
