Star basketball player and Samsung celebrity spokesperson LeBron James recently tweeted about his phone crashing and erasing all his data, saying that it was “One of the sickest feelings I’ve ever had in my life!!!.”

James, however, had to delete his tweet shortly after, possibly because of the embarrassment caused to Samsung, since he’s the ambassador for the company’s products. He has been prominently featured in Samsung’s latest ads for the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Tab Pro. James’ original tweet said:

“My phone just erased everything it had in it and rebooted. One of the sickest feelings I’ve ever had in my life!!!”

He did manage to retrieve the data later on, possibly with help from Samsung, but not before the original tweet had been sent to his 12 million followers.

Rival manufacturer HTC was quick to capitalise on the situation, and promote its own line of smartphones with this tweet:

Samsung’s earlier marketing effort involved promoting the Galaxy Note 3 at the Oscars by getting host Ellen DeGeneres to use it, but she tweeted from her iPhone when not on air, making the campaign a little less effective.
