Twitter pulling #Music app from the App Store, service to shut down April 18

twittermusicTwitter today announced that it is shuttering its Music service and pulling its Music app from the App Store. The app will disappear today, while the service will continue to work until April 18th, one-year after the launch of the service.

Twitter made the announcement in a tweet from the Twitter Music account and followed up with a second tweet that confirmed the service was done with this experiment in music, but still open to exploring other music opportunities in the future.

Twitter Music was rumored to be on the way out after a report from AllThingsD last year painted a bleak picture of the service. Twitter Music reportedly had “abysmal” download numbers and was dealt a crushing blow when project head Kevin Thau left Twitter to join Jelly.
