Kobe Bryant, the popular basketball player for LA Lakers, was spotted on Apple’s Cupertino campus yesterday with his wife to meet with Apple’s design chief Jony Ive. The subject of the meeting reportedly was future Apple products.
9to5Mac received pictures of Bryant and his wife from a tipster:
The pair met with Jony Ive’s team according to the tipster and the scuttlebutt is that the meeting centered around upcoming products. Apple’s campus is clearly recognizable in the background of the photo and the couple can be seen waiting for food. We can’t verify the topic of conversation with Ive but the picture is embedded with a geotag that confirms the photo was taken with an iPhone on Apple’s campus. Kobe’s watch matches a previous publicly available image you can see in the inset.
9to5Mac speculates that the meeting could be about the widely rumored iWatch, for which Apple is reportedly working with Nike. Bryant has an endorsement deal with Nike, and it’s quite possible that the deal might extend to the iWatch as well, because of the Nike connection.
Earlier this month, Apple was looking to get its products in the hands of high-profile celebrities to combat Samsung’s aggressive marketing campaigns. Getting Kobe on board to endorse Apple products would certainly help Apple match up to Samsung’s marketing stunts like Ellen’s Oscar selfie, and its more recent campaign to rebrand a Heathrow airport terminal to “Terminal Samsung Galaxy S5″.Like this post?
