How to Jailbreak iOS 7.1.2 using Pangu

Pangu Jailbreak

Apple just released iOS 7.1.2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch for bug fixes and security updates.

The good news is that iOS 7.1.2 can be jailbroken using Pangu out of the box, so jailbreakers can safely update your iOS device to iOS 7.1.2, and use Pangu to jailbreak it.

Some important points before you proceed:

  • Please note Pangu is an untethered jailbreak for iOS 7.1, iOS 7.1.1 and iOS 7.1.2. If you are on iOS 8 – iOS 8.1 then check out the following guides on how to jailbreak iOS 8 – iOS 8.1 using Pangu:
  • Pangu supports following iOS 7.1 – iOS 7.1.2 devices:
    • iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S and iPhone 4
    • iPad Air, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2
    • iPad mini, Retina iPad mini
    • iPod touch 5G
  • Please disable the passcode as the jailbreak may fail, if the passcode is enabled (Settings -> General -> Passcode Lock On -> Turn Passcode Off).
  • Take a backup of your device using iTunes or iCloud before proceeding.
  • Please ensure you’ve updated iTunes to the latest version.
  • Please note that jailbreaking your iOS device may void your warranty and hence proceed with caution and at your own risk.

Step 1: Download the latest version of Pangu jailbreak for Mac or Windows from this page.

Step 2:

Mac users: Double click on the Pangu dmg file you just downloaded to mount it.

Windows users: Launch the Pangu exe file as an Administrator. Right Click on the Pangu exe and select the “Run as Administrator” option.

Step 3: You should be presented with a screen like the one seen below. Click on the black Jailbreak button.

Step 4: Follow the on-screen instructions. The app will ask you at one point to set your iOS device to June 2nd. To do this, go to Settings -> General -> Date & Time.

Step 5: After you change the date, it should restart the process and install the Pangu app on your iOS device.

Step 6: Tap on the Pangu app on the Home screen of your device when prompted to continue with the jailbreak process. You will get a warning message, which will ask you whether you are “sure you want to open the Application “Pangu” from Developer “iPhone Distribution: Hefei Bo Fang communication technology co., LTD?”. Tap on the Continue button to continue with the jailbreak process.

Step 7: Wait for your device to reboot several times. After a few minutes you should see that you have Cydia on your home screen and you’ll be ready to start installing tweaks on iOS 7.1.2. You can also revert back to set the time automatically via the Settings app.

Mac users can check out our video tutorial if you need help:

And Windows users can check out our video tutorial if you need help:

After the jailbreaking process is complete, do not forget to checkout our article on tips to keep your jailbroken device secure. Check our post for the list of compatible jailbreak apps and tweaks for iOS 7.1.1 if you’ve successfully jailbroken your device.

  • Jozzy Pangia

Ok, so I’ve done everything correctly but when I opened Cydia it loaded for a while then rebooted the phone. The phone is back on and Cydia is gone. Date reset itself to current. Pangu says the phone is already jailbroken but Cydia is not on it.

I’m going to restore and try again.

It will not restore. Itunes said it couldn’t find it? I don’t know whats going on.

    “error (11)”

Pangu 1.1 or 1.2 doesn’t work on iPh 4 iOS 7.1.2. As soon as it finishes loading before I can even click on the “Jailbreak” button the window is greyed out with red oriental characters and an arrow. If I click ant where on the window it opens a browser window that’s redirected to a download page for Pangu 8 for iOS 8.x. It won’t let me paste a screen shot: Thx Arie

  • Simon King

I have a weird situation with my iPhone 4.
It was originally my brother-in-law’s phone from Telstra in Australia. He gave it to me and I have come back to South Africa. He had it working both in South Africa and Australia, but when I brought it back here, it does not want to work with my Cell C sim card and provider. He has also discussed with Telstra in Australia, who have assured him that they do not lock their phones, and that the phone should work with any service provider world wide.

So my question is, will this jailbreak unlock/fix the phone so that I can use it in South Africa?

  • Roy

All the process was made correctly, but when it restarts after opening Cydia, appstore, cydia and other icons dissapeared, what can I do??? 🙁

  • bacon

i tried to use this for iPhone 4 7.1.2 but pangu quit unexpectedly and the jailbreak did not work….what did i do wrong? phone was on airplane mode and i followed all the instructions.

  • Nina

I connected my phone to my computer, but nothing happens…. it doens’t show my phone information on the pangu box…… why????

  • Nix_Nightbird

    Dear Apple,

I wasn’t going to jailbreak, but then you decided not to push new updates to the iPhone 4 anymore. So since I’m stuck on an old OS anyway, I might as well mess with the phone.

Thanks for inspiring me, Apple. Jerks.

  • Adi

After 30 min of reading comments it’s pretty clear that jailbreacking iOS 7.1.2 it’s impossible with pangu….it just brocks your phone…to bad

  • Bill

Twice I have tried following the instructions and both times I get a Jailbreak timeout message.

  • TheNigger69

Thanks! It’s works, but i forgot to save my files so i lose all of them 🙁

  • Getup

I keep getting “Itunes version is too old” even though I just downloaded it from Apple website. Tried sandboxie – same error. Has anyone had such issue before? Please suggest the solution.

  • looking for help

it says please activate your iphone before apply the jailbreak what to do

  • Venura Kasun

after jailbreaking how can i do sim unlock or carrier unlock…please help…

    • Gautam

Jailbreaking and unlocking are two different things. Jailbreaking your device does not allow you to unlock your device. You will need to check out IMEI based solutions that usually are available for a fee.
