iOS 8 adds Peer-to-Peer AirPlay, makes setup easier

iOS 8 was launched at yesterday’s WWDC keynote, and along with all the end-user facing changes, the OS also adds a number of Enterprise features, one of which is Peer to Peer AirPlay.

Though the feature is labelled “Enterprise” it’ll be quite useful for all of you who have an Apple TV along with an iOS 8 device. Here’s how Apple describes Peer to Peer AirPlay:

With iOS 8, you can wirelessly connect iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch to Apple TV without first connecting to the organization’s network. Which means you can present or share your work even if you’re offline or the organization has a complex network.

This is quite useful, as it reduces the additional step of ensuring that both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network before initiating a connection. What’s kind of funny is that this “Enterprise” feature will also be useful the next time you play an iOS game on the big screen via the Apple TV.

This feature is what I’ve been waiting for years since I bought my Apple TV, it would be very useful in the education sector.
