iPhone 6 battery improvements could be minimal because of ultra-slim design

While a recent survey shows that at least one in every three users that plan on purchasing a new iPhone are hoping for longer battery life, a new rumor suggests that the improvements could be minimal. According to G for Games, the oft-rumored iPhone 6 could have only a slightly larger battery because of its ultra-slim design.

The report, citing the Chinese mobile media, claims that the iPhone 6 could have a battery that measures between 1,800 and 1,900 mAh, an improvement over the 1,570 mAh battery in the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. But the smartphone will have a larger 4.7-inch display to be powered, so battery life improvements could be less than anticipated.

G for Games has the scoop:

Earlier today, the entire Chinese mobile media has started passing along a new rumor concerning the iPhone 6, with several new reports suggesting that the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will feature a battery that would measure anywhere between 1,800 and 1,900 mAh. As a reminder, the iPhone 5S and 5C both come with a 1,570 mAh battery, so a bump to 1,800 /1,900 mAh sounds pretty alright. However, due to the fact that the next-gen iPhone is also expected to pack a larger 4,7-inch display, pretty much every Apple fan in China who has stumbled across this report is now wondering if 1,800 mAh is enough. We’re in the same boat too.

If you are planning on purchasing the iPhone 6 for improved battery life, you may want to opt for the 5.5-inch model instead. The larger smartphone is expected to pack a 2,500 mAh battery, although that is lower than the 3,000 mAh battery in the 5.5-inch LG G3 smartphone. At the same time, Android and iOS power management are hard to compare.

Apple optimizes its software-hardware experience as best as possible, so the iPhone 6 on iOS 8 could have more significant battery life improvements than expected. We’ll find out for sure when the next-generation smartphone launches in the fall, a busy season for Apple that should also see the launch of new iPads, Macs and the long-rumored iWatch.

It is important to note that these battery figures are not confirmed, so take them with a grain of salt. We are sharing the rumor in the interest of discussion.
