Modbook is known for bringing together Apple’s MacBook and tablets, creating devices that are meant to bring the best of both worlds into one device. The company has just announced a new Kickstarter campaign to bring to life a Retina MacBook Pro in the body of a tablet.
Modbook has been known to bridge together a MacBook and tablet before, as the company released the Modbook Pro back in 2012, which transformed a MacBook Pro into a 13-inch tablet. In 2014, though, they’ve aimed a bit higher. By combining a Retina MacBook Pro with a tablet, they’ve bumped up just about every specification, including the screen size, which now measures in at just over 15 inches.
Modbook is looking for $150,000 in their campaign to bring this device to life. If kickstarted, the company will offer two options for those who want a 15.4-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display as a tablet: Send in your current Retina MacBook Pro to be converted, and you’ll only have to pay $1,999. Or, if you’d just like to order your own complete system from the company directly, you can pay $3,999 to get your hands on it.
There are a variety of specification options to choose from, including the 2.8GHz Intel chipset that was launched in the refreshed MacBook Pro lineup on July 29. You can select up to 2TB of flash storage, and opt in for 32GB of RAM if you are into that sort of thing.
There are some accessories being designed for the new device, too, including a keyboard stand that offers a full-sized ‘board, with backlight support, an adjustable easel, and works as a cover for the tablet when it is not in use. The Modbook Pro X also boasts pen support.
At the time of publication, the Modbook Pro X has three backers, and has raised $35.00 so far. The Kickstarter campaign ends in 39 days, or September 7, 2014.
