Apple seeded beta 5 of iOS 8 earlier today to registered developers of its iOS developer program. Apple unveiled iOS 8 last month with a number of new features like Handoff, custom keyboards, widgets, interactive notifications etc.
There are several changes in iOS 8 beta 5, but nothing noteworthy has been discovered so far.
HealthKit: Apple has added Spirometry data types in HealthKit.
iCloud: Icons for iCloud Drive, Keychain and Backup in the iCloud section of the Settings app have a new look.
SMS Relay: Your iPhone now prompts you when an iPad or Mac tries to access your device’s SMSes. The feature called SMS Relay is a part of Apple’s new Continuity features that let iPads and Macs make phone calls and send text messages.
Health app: The Health app received a number of changes in beta 5:
- New icon for Body data
- New option to Export Health data
- Option to show Medical ID on Emergency Lock screen (via 9to5Mac)
iCloud Photos: New option to download and keep originals under iCloud Photo Storage. The other option, Optimize iPhone Storage keeps lower resolution copies of photos on device, and stores original high-res photos in iCloud.
Keyboard: The QuickType button from iOS 8 beta 3 has become an actual toggle, with its name changed to “Predictive”. You can access it by pressing and holding the globe key in the keyboard.
Wi-Fi Calling: iOS 8 adds Wi-Fi calling on supported carriers. iOS 8 beta 5 tells you if you’re on a supported carrier with an updated label, which in case of T-Mobile’s network says “T-Mobile Wi-Fi”. (via MacRumors forums)
