Apple pulls Launcher iOS app from App Store for its widget functionality

iOS 8 introduced a way to let developers add widgets to the Today section of the Notification Center, and since iOS 8’s release we’ve seen a lot of useful widgets. One such widget, called Launcher, however has been removed from the App Store today by Apple.

Launcher was launched alongside iOS 8 as a way to have quick shortcuts for calling or texting your contacts, opening maps with directions to your home or posting a status on Facebook or Twitter. Its functionality is very similar to popular app Launch Center Pro.

Apple removed Launched from the App Store as it disallows widgets with the kind of functionality Launcher provides:

As with all apps being taken off App Store, you’ll still be able to use Launcher if you have installed it. Even if you’ve deleted it, you can download it again from the App Store’s purchases tab.
