There is a lot of content out there, and sometimes you don’t have time to read it all when you’d like. So, saving it to read later has become a norm for some people. Instapaper has been making reading things later easier for quite some time, and now with the latest update, even more features have been tossed into the mix.
To match the release of Apple’s iOS 8, Instapaper has been issued its biggest update in quite some time. Bumping up the version number to 6.0, Instapaper is now free right out of the gate. There is still a subscription on offer, for either $2.99 per month or $29.99 for the year, which offer specific features that aren’t available in the free version. But, if you don’t want to spend any money, the free options are still certainly worthwhile.
First and foremost, the ability to save anything to Instapaper, as long as the app you’re sharing from utilizes the system share sheet. This will make any content you want to read later accessible through Instapaper, all thanks to the Share option in iOS 8.
View Today’s Saves is a new way to find out what you’ve saved throughout a particular day, all without having to open the application directly. Thanks to the widgets offered in Notification Center in iOS 8, simply swipe down from the top of your display, and Instapaper’s widget will show you what you’ve saved that day so you can access it right then and there.
Instapaper 6.0 now includes text-to-speech, which means you can have your articles read to you, if you can’t read them at the moment. If you pay for the subscription, you’ll gain access to set up several different articles in a specific text-to-speech playlist, so you can listen to the list without having to choose them individually.
