Preorders for the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus have already been revealed to be quite high from companies like AT&T, but now Apple has made their first 24 hours announcement, with a milestone broken along the way.
Apple has officially announced that the iPhone 6 lineup has surpassed more than 4 million preorders within the first 24 hours. As a result of the high demand, Apple notes in their official press release that while many customers will be getting their iPhones in September, others will be waiting until October as shipping dates get pushed back.
“Apple® today announced a record number of first day pre-orders of iPhone® 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, the biggest advancements in iPhone history, with over four million in the first 24 hours. Demand for the new iPhones exceeds the initial pre-order supply and while a significant amount will be delivered to customers beginning on Friday and throughout September, many iPhone pre-orders are scheduled to be delivered in October.“
To go down memory lane, Apple sold 9 million iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c’s over the course of their launch weekend in 2013 (the iPhone 5s was not up for preorder). Going further back, in 2012, the iPhone 5 managed to net Apple 2 million preorders. On Friday, September 12, Apple teased that the company had seen a “record number” of preorders for the iPhone 6 lineup.
The company has also changed its company description to better reflect the future, as the company bears devices like the Apple Watch and utilizes Apple Pay for mobile payments:
“Apple reinvented the mobile phone with its revolutionary iPhone and App Store, defined the future of mobile media and computing devices with iPad and has announced Apple Watch, its most personal device ever. Apple leads the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store, continues the rapid pace of innovation of mobile software with iOS and integrated services including Apple Pay and iCloud. Apple designs Macs, the best personal computers in the world with OS X, and free iOS and OS X apps like iWork and iMovie.“
