Apple releases Safari 7.1 with DuckDuckGo support and Yahoo search encryption

Apple has released a new version of Safari for OS X Mavericks this afternoon, available now as a free update through the Mac App Store. Safari 7.1 features support for the DuckDuckGo search engine within the built-in search field, encryption for Yahoo searches and general improvements to privacy, compatibility and security.

Safari 7.1 went through a series of beta releases for testing ahead of this official release for OS X Mavericks. Apple has also improved Reader and AutoFill compatibility with all websites.

The full changelog:

  • Adds DuckDuckGo , a search engine that doesn’t track users, as a built-in option in the search field
  • Encrypts all Yahoo searches from the search field
  • Improves Reader compatibility with all websites
  • Improves AutoFill compatibility with all websites

The release follows OS X Mavericks 10.9.5, which came with Safari 7.0.6. The update is available through Software Update in the Mac App Store.
