Apple released iOS 8.1 this morning with features like Apple Pay, SMS Relay, Instant Hotspot and more. While many users have smoothly updated to the new OS, we’ve been receiving several reports of the update failing due to an error related to iTunes update server.

The error says “iPhone update software update server could not be contacted” suggesting that Apple’s servers are overloaded due to the high traffic from iPhone and iPad owners who are trying to update iOS. Another error users are seeing says “Unable to Check for Update. An error occurred while checking for a software update.” This also points to Apple’s servers going down under the huge surge in traffic.

There’s no proper solution to this as the problem seems to be on Apple’s end, but we suggest you want for a while, and then try again, hoping that the traffic reduces by then.
