UntetheredHeySiri: Jailbreak tweak lets you use ‘Hey Siri’ hands-free activation without being plugged in

Apple added a really useful feature to Siri, that lets you activate it hands-free just by saying “Hey Siri.” The feature sadly works only when your device is plugged in.

A new jailbreak tweak by well-known developer Hamza Sood called UntetheredHeySiri removes this restriction of being plugged in, and lets you use “Hey Siri” hands free activation all the time. So you’ll be able to activate Siri without pressing the home button, even when you aren’t plugged in.

The tweak is available on the Big Boss repo. After installing it from Cydia, you’ll have to enable the “Always” mode by going to Settings > General > Siri.

Note that Apple put the power-only constraint in place due to battery life concerns, so if you install this tweak, it’s likely you drain your battery faster than usual. We’re guessing iPhone 6 Plus owners can install this, given the larger battery, but even then, proceed with caution.

Interested to see how much of a decrease in battery this causes.

I’ve been using it for a few days on iPhone 6 and it doesn’t seem to affect battery life that much at all. At least for me. Definitely worth installing.

I paid $2.99 for Hands-Free Control but the developer stopped upgrading it after iOS6. It worked so well that I had to give Siri a alternative command name otherwise it started to respond the moment the name Siri was mentioned in a conversation with friends, family and random strangers. I bought a Mophie battery case for my iphones 4S because the tweak kinda drained the battery faster than normal. I really liked the tweak while using my car and the iphone interface in it.

Works great on my 6+ but can’t comment on battery life yet.

Does it happen to affect much battery life on iPhone 5s? Anyone has tried it out?
