If you’re a long time jailbreak user, you will remember Zephyr, a popular tweak which brought multitasking gestures to your iPhone. The tweak hasn’t been updated for iOS 7 or iOS 8, however the good news is that Cydia developer Ma Jun released a similar jailbreak tweak called Tage.
The tweak that has been on Cydia for quite some time, and we’ve covered it briefly in our weekly best jailbreak tweak roundup, but it deserved a more detailed coverage.
Tage enables multitasking gestures on iOS 8 so you won’t have to press the Home button. To make it clear, Tage isn’t exactly the same as Zephyr, it comes with its own unique features and ideas.
Coming to the functionality part, the tweak features five different gesture actions. You can swipe from the bottom left, right or center of the screen to launch the Quick Switcher or to close the currently open app. You can assign the screen area to each of these actions from the tweak’s preference pane.
The next important functionality that Tage introduces is the ability to swipe from the left or the right of the screen to switch to the previous or the next open app. You can also swipe the Status Bar to the right or the left to lock your device.
Finally, when you swipe down the Springboard card in the App Switcher, an action menu pops up allowing to perform one of the following actions:
- Power Off
- Go to Safe Mode
- Quit all apps
- Quit background apps
It also comes with a separate preference pane in the stock Settings app where you can customize it and assign the gestures.
For instance, you can assign the Quick Switcher to either the bottom left, right or center of the screen, choose the sensitivity of the Quick Switcher, enable or disable any of the tweak’s feature and much more. The pane is filled with a lot of configuration options allowing you to customize the tweak according to the way you want.
In my opinion, Tage is a solid alternative to Zephyr and if you were a fan of the latter tweak , you should definitely consider checking out Tage, it is the closest things to Zephyr we’ve seen so far. It comes packed with tons of additional new features which you can take advantage of.
The tweak offers a 3 days free trial and if you’re satisfied with it, you can purchase the full-time license for a small fee of $1.99. Tage is available on Cydia’s BigBoss repository for both iOS 7 and iOS 8 iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
