Earlier today, Pangu team successfully demoed an iOS 8.3 jailbreak, which could be released after iOS 8.4 is released to the public later this month.TaiG, the other Chinese team of hackers, who had released the TaiG jailbreak for iOS 8.1.1 have clarified in an interview with iDigitalTimes that they currently don’t have any plans to release a jailbreak prior to iOS 9, unless there is any change in the situation.
Previously, the TaiG team had said that they were confident of releasing a jailbreak for iOS 8.2. They were also rumors that they had released the iOS 8.2 jailbreak tool during the 2015 Mobile Security Summit, which was organized by them. But they had issued a statement that it wasn’t true.
So when Ray Xie, a member of the two-member TaiG team was asked why they haven’t released a jailbreak, he had this to say:
The TaiG team didn’t actually say we would release an iOS 8.2 jailbreak, just that we were confident we could achieve it. We did intend to release an iOS 8.2 Beta Jailbreak, but had to give it up due to some last minute complications.
He also clarified that they don’t have any plans to jailbreak Apple Watch.
We have no plan to jailbreak Apple Watch at this time. Apple Watch is a new product. We don’t know too much about its users’ demands. What’s more, we are not quite clear about whether it is suitable or necessary to jailbreak an Apple watch. Time will tell all that.
So it looks like we will have to wait for the Pangu team to release the iOS 8.3 or iOS 8.4 jailbreak. But it is good to know that the TaiG team will be focusing on jailbreaking iOS 9, which is going to even more difficult with the new kernel-level security feature called Rootless.
Ray talks about other interesting topics such as where they see the future of jailbreaking, so would recommend you to visit iDigitalTimes to read the entire interview.
