Jailbreak iOS 9 Status Update

Jailbreak iOS 9

Apple’s all set to release iOS 9, the next major software update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch tomorrow, September 16. While iOS 9 includes a number of features inspired by jailbreak tweaks like VideoPane, SwipeSelection etc., there are still a number of reasons you would want to jailbreak iOS 9.

So here’s an update on the iOS 9 jailbreak. But before we give you an update on the iOS 9 jailbreak, a quick update on the current situation.

Current Jailbreak Status

As you know, there is currently no tool available to jailbreak iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 8.4.1. Apple patched several vulnerabilities in iOS 8.4.1 which were used by the TaiG jailbreak that can be used to jailbreak iOS 8.4 – iOS 8.4.1. However, Pangu team seems to have successfully jailbroken iOS 8.4.1. They have also provided details of the kernel vulnerabilities in the iOS 8.4.1 discovered by them, and revealed that two of those vulnerabilities discovered by them and most likely used to jailbreak iOS 8.4.1 have already been patched in iOS 9.

It remains to be seen if Pangu team will release a jailbreak for iOS 8.4.1, but they haven’t revealed their plans yet.

iOS 9 Jailbreak Status

The good news is that iOS 9 has already been jailbroken. Few days back, iH8sn0w, developer of popular jailbreak tools such as Sn0wbreeze, P0sixspwn published a video to demonstrate that iOS 9 can be jailbroken. He doesn’t plan to release the iOS 9 jailbreak, so we will have to wait for Pangu or TaiG team to discover the vulnerabilities to jailbreak iOS 9. But the fact that it can be jailbroken gives us some hope that a jailbreak for iOS 9 could be released a lot sooner than the jailbreak for iOS 8 was released. Jailbreak for iOS 8 was released more than a month after it was released.

With iOS 9.1 already seeded to developers, it is very likely that the jailbreak will be released directly for iOS 9.1 rather than iOS 9.
