Soon after the launch of the Apple TV last month, Amazon stopped selling all generations of the Apple TV as well as Chromecast through its website. The official excuse from the company was that both devices did not support its Prime Video streaming service that could have led to confusion among customers.
Now, it looks like Amazon is working on bringing support for Prime Video streaming to tvOS on the fourth generation Apple TV. Replying to a feedback from @danimal, an Amazon executive said that the technical team at the company is currently working on a new app for the Apple TV with support for Instant Video.
Amazon does not really give an exact timeframe for the launch of the app in their feedback except for a vague “few weeks span”, but it looks like the app could launch towards the end of this year or early next year.
Amazon Video offers Prime members with the ability to rent and buy tens and thousands of movies and TV shows. The streaming service is already available on iPhone and iPad along with a bunch of other platforms.
With the Apple TV 4 doing extremely well, not supporting Instant Video on the platform could prove detrimental for Amazon’s Prime Video service itself.
