As expected, Apple has officially launched Pay in Australia with an exclusive partnership with American Express. This follows in line with previous reports, and follows in-line with the launch of Apple’s mobile payments option in Canada earlier this week, thanks to the same partnership with AMEX. Now that Australia has Apple Pay support, the option can be used at sites like Coles, McDonald’s, Kmart, Woolworths, Starbucks, Harvey Norman, and many others.
As was the case with Canadian Pay users, those interested in adding their cards can do so by heading into the Wallet app and tapping on the “Add Credit or Debit Card” option.
It’s not a secret that, while Apple Pay is now available in Canada and Australia, the Cupertino-based company is still working on negotiations with major banks in the areas to launch the product to more customers. When, and if, that will happen remains to be seen. So, as it stands, American Express cards are the only way to officially use Apple Pay in Australia.
If you’re in Australia, do you plan on using Apple Pay?
