After leaking in a few pictures and getting a hands-on video treatment earlier today, Apple has gone ahead and made its magnetic dock for the Apple Watch official. The magnetic charging dock comes in white and can be purchased through Apple’s Online store and selected retail stores across the world from today.
It will also be available for personal pickup in the U.S., Canada, and Australia from 20th November.
As leaked photos and hands-on videos had shown, the official charging dock from Apple can be used to charge the Apple Watch in two positions: flat with the band open, or on its side. When charged in the latter position, the watch goes into the Nightstand mode — introduced with the watchOS 2 update — that makes it possible to use the smartwatch as an alarm clock.
The charger uses the same inductive charging method and features a Lightning port so you can use your existing iPhone or iPad charger with it as well. Apple is also bundling a 2 metre long Lightning cable with the dock that is larger than the cable it provides with its other devices.
At $79, the official charging dock for the Apple Watch from Apple is a bit on the pricey side and it does not really offer any added functionality compared to other third-party docks.
