As per two studies, most Apple Watch owners use the smartwatch as a watch itself. The study indicates that most people check the time on the smartwatch at least 30 to 40 times a day, with each interaction lasting around 3.8 seconds.
The first study was conducted among 2,400 Apple Watch owners by Wristly.com. Out of the 2,400 participants, 1,450 of them check their smartwatch on an average of 4-5 times an hour, which translates into 60 to 80 times per day.
Another study conducted by Brown et al. at the University of Stockholm’s Mobile Life Centre shows the duration spent by Apple Watch owners on using different functions of the smartwatch. The study was conducted by giving the Apple Watch to over a dozen people and then their interaction with the smartwatch being captured on camera over a period of 34 days.
The chart above shows that most Apple Watch owners use the smartwatch to have a quick look at the watch face or check their notifications. Surprisingly, the frequency of them using the Apple Watch to check their email or Maps for direction was abnormally low. Additionally, the chart also shows that most of the interactions done by Apple Watch owners is limited to apps from Apple, with only 13 interactions occurring over a period of 34 days that involved using a third party app.[Via Fortune, Mobile Life Centre]
