In 2016 it’s expected that Apple will launch the “iPhone 7,” but it’s also possible the company has another iPhone waiting in the wings.
According to a new report from MyDrivers, China Mobile has recently held an event to talk about its plans for the next year, and what devices might show up on the carrier’s network. That includes a 4-inch iPhone that the carrier has dubbed the “iPhone 7c,” with an expected launch date of April 2016.
This would pan out with previous rumors, suggesting that Apple’s unannounced 4-inch iPhone could land in the early part of 2016. However, the report’s indication that the phone would be called the iPhone 7c doesn’t seem accurate, as it would be unlikely that Apple would name the smaller iPhone in the same vein as its new flagship before it gets around to announcing it later in 2016. Instead, it’s more likely that the 4-inch iPhone will be called the “iPhone 6c.”
Indeed, a report earlier in December pointed to Apple hosting an event in March of 2016, which would be focused on the second-generation Apple Watch, but which could also facilitate the announcement of a 4-inch iPhone, which could then launch in April.
The report doesn’t indicate any features, but previous rumors have suggested it could boast an aluminum frame, an A9 processor under the hood, and a 2.5D curved edge cover glass.
