Today is the official launch date of the next film in the long-running Star Wars franchise, and pre-orders have already begun.
Early showings for Star Wars: The Force Awakens began last night around the world, and for those who have already seen the film today, or even for those who just know they’re going to buy the new film anyway, iTunes now has it listed for pre-order. Both the high definition and standard definition variants are available, with pricing set at $19.99 and $14.99, respectively.
The pre-order landing page for the film is pretty bare at the moment, containing only the trailer (measured in at just over two minutes), as well as the notice that, “Pre-order contents are subject to change without notice. The final product received may differ.”
The plot summary is even devoid of any real content explaining the story you’ll find in the film, which is set about 30 years after the events that took place in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, and introduces new characters, while reintroducing old favorites, in the grand old space opera that Star Wars fans expect.
The new film is directed by JJ Abrams, who shares writing credit with Lawrence Kasdan and Michael Arndt. It stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac. Oh, and BB-8.
You can find the HD pre-order link available below. The pre-order release follows in line with the official soundtrack for The Force Awakens going live earlier today.
Do you plan on pre-ordering? If you’ve seen the film, what did you think?
