Apple Pay support added to more than 50 new banks and credit unions

Over 50 US banks have been added to the list supporting Apple Pay. This number continues to outpace the number of merchants that are even accepting payments through the service.

In the last year, Apple has been adding more banks and credit unions to their list supporting Apple Pay and today the company has added another 50+. Since the release of Apple Pay in October of 2014, the wireless payment service has expanded not only in the U.S., but internationally as well in countries including Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Today’s 50+ credit unions and banks were added for Apple Watch, iPhone, and iPad users. The new additions are only for supported institutions within the U.S., none of which were international banks or credit unions. Rollout of credit unions and banks outside of the U.S. have really slowed down and can’t even compare to the level of support the U.S. gets.

Apple launched support for BJ’s Wholesale Club store cards just last month and  Starbucks and JCPenney also announced that they would be rolling out Apple Pay sometime this year as well. As for international rollout, the U.K currently only has support from 15 credit unions and banks and non-bank issued American Express cards in the U.K. and Canada.
