Google’s Gboard Keyboard for iPhone Features Built-In Search and Gesture Typing

Surprising everyone, Google today released a keyboard for the iPhone dubbed Gboard. Compared to other third-party keyboards, Gboard allows one to quickly do a Google search right from within the keyboard itself. The relevant search results can then be shared in the conversation that you are having.

As the video below explains, there is a ‘G’ shortcut on the keyboard, tapping on which will allows one to quickly do a Google search. You can also search for GIFs, emojis, addresses, and more. All the information is displayed in a card-like view, with the most important information being present right in the center. All you need to do is tap on it to send it to your friends or family.

With Gboard, Google is essentially removing the hassle of you jumping to a different app to find some information, copy it, and then paste it in the conversation that you are having.

The keyboard also features Glide Typing, so you can slide your finger from one key to another instead of tapping on them. This should make typing on Gboard considerably faster and easier.

Google says that Gboard works in any app on the iPhone, including messaging, email and YouTube. For now, Gboard is only available in the U.S. App Store, and it only supports English, with support for more languages to come.
