How To Send Reactions in Messages in iOS 10

You know how you can send a Like in the Facebook Messenger and how you can react to status updates in Facebook with different emoticons? This lets us quickly acknowledge that we’ve read the message and even show how the message makes us feel, very quickly, without even typing anything. Well now, you can do something very similar in the Messages app in iOS 10.

The feature is called Tapback (silly name, we can ignore it). But here’s how it works.

How To Send Reactions To Messages in iOS 10

The way to do it in Messages app is kind of hidden.

You need to press and hold on a message bubble (for longer than you’d think) for the reactions to show up.

You’ll then see six emoticons. Heart, like, dislike, ha ha, two exclamation marks, and a question mark.

Tap one and the reaction will be sent. You’ll see an animation and emoticon you choose will be docked to the top right corner of the message.

Your can change the reaction later as well, using the same process. But at once, a message can only have one active reaction.

React Away

I feel like these are a neat way to save time (or ignore conversations, your choice), even though they’re not exactly discoverable.

But there’s a lot of other stuff in the Messages app in iOS 10 just like this. Hidden away. Kind of a running theme in the new app. But don’t worry, we’ve got your back.
