While unveiling the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Apple made quite a big deal about the new Jet Black finish for the phones. Made through a nine-step anodization process, the finish definitely looks gorgeous to look at — at least in the photos and videos showed by Apple.
However, there is an issue with this color that Apple seems to have conveniently forgotten to mention during the keynote. Using a case is almost a must with the Jet Black iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 since its shiny finish can easily show abrasions (or scratches).
The high-gloss finish of the Jet Black iPhone 7 is achieved through a precision nine-step anodization and polishing process. Its surface is equally as hard as other anodized Apple products; however, its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect your iPhone.
Apple mentions this clearly in the footnote and recommends customers to use a case to protect the finish of the handset.
If you were planning on buying a Jet Black iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, definitely keep this issue in mind. While most customers do end up slapping a case on their iPhone, it is possible that the finish will get scratches from the interior of the case itself in some circumstances.
Thankfully, if you are hell bent on buying a black iPhone, Apple also launched a normal black variant of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus with a matte finish that you can buy without any such worries.Like this post? Share it!
