The Apple TV 4 has been on sale for quite some time, and identifies a huge push for TV apps, it was only a matter of time before the last generation set-top box was discontinued.
And it appears that time has arrived. According to an email obtained by 9to5Mac, Apple has informed employees that it has indeed discontinued the set-top box, which was initially launched back in 2012, and received a slight spec upgrade in 2013. Three years later trying to visit the Apple TV 3 landing page on Apple’s website will now automatically redirect to the Apple TV 4.
For its part, Apple will continue to fulfill any backlog orders that are in place, but, for new customers, the Apple TV 4 is the focus.
