It’s important for Verizon Wireless customers to know how to check their mobile data usage throughout the month. Not only do data caps encourage monitoring, but especially those on shared family plans should keep an eye on everyone else’s habits.
Stay on track by checking your mobile data usage right from your iPhone using two free methods: short codes and the Verizon app. Whichever you choose depends on how much detail you want. Keep in mind that those methods outlined below only work for Verizon customers.
Check Data Usage with Verizon Short Codes
Just to get a basic update on your data usage, you can use Verizon’s own short codes. These are quick numbers to dial to get a message with the data you burned through so far. Other major U.S. carriers also support this feature, but Verizon’s short codes are exclusive to its own customers.
Open the Phone app on iPhone and navigate to the Keypad tab. Then dial #3282 (#DATA) with the pound symbol included and press the green Call button. You should get a message right away with your current data usage for this billing cycle. If you stay on the phone, you’ll be able to hear the amount as well.
Verizon also has a short code for checking your minutes too if you’re still on a plan that caps them. Instead, just dial #646 (#MIN). Again you’ll get the text alert followed by a spoken message about your minutes thus far this month.
Download My Verizon App
Sign in with your Verizon account credentials. Then on the dashboard, you can see a glance at your data and upcoming bill. The data section at the top should show you a percentage of how much data you’ve used so far in the billing cycle. It also shows how many days are left in it.
You can tap this for the Data Hub page with additional details about your data usage. The page also provides a quick link to learn how to upgrade your data plan and get more per month.
It’s my recommendation that all Verizon customers have this app on their iPhones to avoid getting hit with overage fees or throttling. Check your data usage every so often throughout the month to make sure you’re keeping a good pace, plus identify patterns that might send you into data overload.
For questions or concerns, the My Verizon app lets you contact customer service directly. Just tap Support in the menu.
