You can finally send and receive GIFs using WhatsApp for iPhone. Support has been added with the latest version of the app, which also lets you share short videos and Live Photos from iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 as animated GIF images.
Just like Messages in iOS 10, WhatsApp lets you search for GIFs from within the app — so that you don’t have to find and download them to your camera roll first. To do this, tap the plus icon alongside the text box inside any chat, then choose the “Photo & Video” option.
Now tap the GIF search button in the bottom left corner and search for an image using keywords. When you find one you like, tap it to select it. WhatsApp will give you the option to trim or crop the GIF, and add a caption before you send it.
You can also select GIFs you use frequently as favorites so that they’re easier to find later.
To send GIFs in WhatsApp, simply download the latest update — version 2.16.15 — from the App Store now. If you don’t already have WhatsApp installed on your device, simply follow the download link below to obtain it.
