Back in July of last year, it was confirmed that Apple had acquired the “Carpool Karaoke” segment from the Late Late Show With James Corden.
Details were thin at the time, but it was made clear that the episodes would be released through Apple Music, and on a weekly basis. James Corden’s role with the new spin-off, and whether or not he’d still be the host per episode, remained unknown. However, Variety reports that a few changes have indeed been set in place.
The report indicates that the show will be transitioning to a more “interview-style,” and that each episode will measure in at about thirty minutes. On top of that, each episode will be hosted by a different celebrity:
“We’re really excited about the pairings we’re putting together,” Corden said. Those pairings include more traditional musical choices like John Legend with Alicia Keys and Seth MacFarlane with Ariana Grande, but also more outside-the-box choices like Billy Eichner in the passenger seat, surrounded by the band Metallica, or former NFL star and talk show host Michael Strahan with NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon.”
There will be 16 episodes in total, and it’s rumored that, when it launches, it will be restricted to Apple Pay subscribers (which starts at $9.99 per month). That has yet to be confirmed by Apple.
You can check out one of the segments from Corden’s run as the host below. What do you think of the new format?
