It’s been quite some time since Instagram rolled out its Carousel feature to advertisers, letting them upload a series of photos at one time, rather than one at a time like the rest of the user base.
But now, the feature is finally rolling out to all users. Instagram has officially announced on its blog that the social network will let users upload up to 10 photos and/or videos to a single post. As Instagram puts it, this allows users to upload a more “complete story” of whatever it is they’re recording, letting others enjoy the full experience as well.
For users, it also means that those they follow are less likely to flood a stream with one photo after another.
“With this update, you no longer have to choose the single best photo or video from an experience you want to remember. Now, you can combine up to 10 photos and videos in one post and swipe through to see them all.
Share your favorite moments of your best friend’s surprise birthday party, from setting up to when they walk through the door. Or create a step-by-step cake recipe that people can always find on your profile.”
To launch a Carousel, users simply need to select the new icon that looks like a stack of photos. The next option will let users select the 10 photos and/or videos they want to upload, allowing users to tap-hold-and-drag to change the order of those photos or videos as they see fit. Each Carousel post will only include one location tag, however, and one caption, so be aware of that.
For users looking at Carousel posts, there will be blue dots below the collection of images and videos, and users will simply be able to swipe through to see the full collection.
The new update is rolling out today.
