When you play a song on your iPhone, a set of music playback controls are displayed on the Lock screen along with the song details. Spin is a new jailbreak tweak for iOS 10 that completely revamps this interface to bring a fancier look.
The tweak changes the music interface on the Lock screen to a circular one as can be seen in the screenshot above. It turns the album artwork into a circular frame with the progress bar around it. Just like a dial, the music scrubber around the artwork can be dragged in a circular path to scrub through the song.
While the interface looks quite nice, Spin has several issues. Firstly, the circular interface appears beneath the Lock screen clock which means that a portion of the interface remains hidden. This destroys the whole purpose of the tweak. Secondly, the music scrubber around the album artwork doesn’t work properly.
Spin also comes with a dedicated preferences pane in Settings where you can customize the interface and the features of the tweak. It offers the following options:
- Hide the play/pause button
- Adjust the position of the playback controls as well as the music scrubber
- Hide any labels that are displayed within the tweak’s interface
- Enable landscape support
Although Spin is a nice tweak with an amazing concept, it needs a little more work to iron out all the issues and provide a pleasant user experience. Apart from customization, it doesn’t bring any new feature to the Lock screen, not even a volume slider, which is a bit baffling.
Yet, if you’d like to give this tweak a try, Spin is available for $0.99 in Cydia’s BigBoss repo. Existing users of Spin can grab the latest version for free. Let us know what you think about this tweak in the comments below.
