Hide the Content of iOS 10 Notifications on a Per-App Basis with This Jailbreak Tweak

There are jailbreak tweaks that allow you to secure apps with Touch ID and passcode to prevent unauthorized access, but what about some notifications that pop up on the Lock screen and reveal sensitive information that you may want to hide? Some apps allow you to hide the content of their notifications, but not all apps have this option. NotifyCensored is a new jailbreak tweak that aims to solve this issue.

Normally, when you receive a notification, a great deal of information is displayed such as the sender of a message and a short excerpt of that message. NotifyCensored allows you to censor notifications on a per-app basis so that their content remains hidden. It works with notification banners, notifications on the Lock screen, as well as those in Notification Center.

The good thing about this tweak is that you can enable it for certain apps. For instance, you can choose to hide the content of notifications from Twitter while allowing other apps to display their notifications as normal.

NotifyCensored supports a fairly limited list of supported apps. Once you install it, head to its preferences pane in Settings where you can select the apps for which the notifications should be censored. The supported apps are:

  • WhatsApp
  • Messages
  • Gmail
  • Facebook Messenger
  • iCloud Mail
  • Google Allo
  • BBM Messenger
  • LINE Messenger
  • WeChat Messenger

Once you make any changes, they will take effect right away. There’s no need to respring your device.

The good thing about this tweak is that it hides the entire content of notifications. As an example, it hides both the sender name and the message excerpt for messaging apps such as WhatsApp.

NotifyCensored is a great tweak to enhance your privacy in iOS 10. If you wish to get your hands on it, head to Cydia and download it for free from Cydia’s BigBoss repo.
