As per Apple analyst Brain White from Drexel Hamilton, all the three iPhone 8 models from Apple will go up for pre-order in September. However, the premium OLED variant will not begin shipping until after a few weeks.
As per the analyst’s sources, the delay in the shipping of the 5.8-inch OLED iPhone 8 is being attributed to the 3D sensing technology that Apple is working on integrating on the handset. While rumors about an iPhone launch being delayed have almost always circled in the past, this time around, the evidence strongly indicates of a potential delay in the launch timeframe.
The iPhone 8 is still a few months away from its unveiling though, and it is possible that the situation can improve thereby allowing Apple to ship the OLED iPhone 8 alongside the other two variants of the handset.
Our contact strongly believes the 5.8-inch iPhone 8 will be delayed by several weeks due to challenges around the 3D sensing technology, but still in time for the December holidays. This is not the first time that we’ve heard about a potential delay with a new iPhone; however, our contact was so emphatic about the delay that we are taking this data point more seriously. Since it is only April, this situation could improve. Essentially, our contact believes customers will be able to pre-order the new 5.8-inch iPhone 8 along with the new 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhones in September; however, the 5.8-inch iPhone 8 will not be available for delivery until several weeks later.
The analyst’s note comes after a plethora of other rumors and reports have also indicated about the potential delay in the OLED iPhone 8 launch due to the complex production procedure of certain components. A report from earlier this week claimed that the OLED iPhone 8 could launch in October-November due to this. Apart from the OLED display, the premium variant of the iPhone 8 is also expected to lack a physical home button and feature a revolutionary 3D camera at the front for some kind of biometric authentication.
However, knowing Apple, putting the OLED iPhone 8 on pre-order or announcing it in September alongside the other two iPhone variants and then shipping it a few weeks later, makes more sense. What do you think?
