iPhone 8 Said to Feature Vertical Dual Rear Cameras, Stainless Steel Chassis

Some of the rumors swirling around the still unofficial iPhone 8 refuse to die down. Instead they simply take a month, or two, off before resurfacing.

The latest report from Mac Otakara details a few elements of what is expected to be featured on the iPhone 8, as far as the design goes, echoing plenty of rumors that we’ve heard in the past. Specifically, the new report suggests that Apple will indeed be taking plenty of cues from the iPhone 4 in terms of design aesthetics, updating the materials used in key areas at the same time.

The report details that the iPhone 8 could feature a stainless steel chassis, with a band that wraps around the entirety of the handset. Meanwhile, the front and the back of the phone will be glass. Of course, while Apple will be using the metal chassis, and the glass back and front, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the upcoming flagship iPhone will look exactly like an iPhone 4, so for anyone who might not have been a fan of that aesthetic, one can hope that Apple will update the overall design.

Meanwhile, the report also states that the iPhone 8 will boast a dual-camera setup on the back of the handset like we’ve seen in the iPhone 7 Plus. However, Apple will be changing the design to a vertical layout, which we’ve seen in schematics that surfaced online.

They are also calling it the “iPhone Edition,” a name we’ve heard bandied about in the past a few times as well. At this point it seems it’s either going to be called that or the iPhone 8 — with “iPhone X” a distant third option.

Finally, the report states that the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus that are rumored to launch alongside the iPhone 8 later this year will likely be a little bit thicker than the current lineup those devices will be replacing. That’s worth mentioning because, if true, it means that cases designed for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus won’t fit on the new phones.

This report doesn’t say anything about the fate of Touch ID.
