As per the data collected by market research firm comScore, iPhone’s ownership in the United States is at an all-time high right now. Apple has never previously had so many iPhone users in the United States at any given point of time.
As per estimates of the firm, there are over 85.3 million iPhone owners in the US aged 13 or older. The data was collected over a three-month period ending December 2016.
Approximately 15 percent of the total iPhone users were using Apple’s latest iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus. Older models like the iPhone 6/6s and iPhone 6/6ss Plus also remained incredibly popular among consumers, with a total combined user base of 48.4 percent. The remaining 17.8 percent users are estimated to be using an iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, or older iPhone.
Many other analysts, however, believe that the number of iPhone owners in the United States is significantly higher, with the number being upwards of 100m+.
comScore also says that the iPhone 8 will turn out to be incredibly popular among consumers because it will launch with several new features like edge-to-edge display, wireless charging, and an improved camera. These features will make for a compelling upgrade and the hoards of iPhone 6 buyers who will be looking for an upgrade after using their phone for 2+ years will lead to a “supercycle” of sorts that will see Apple sell millions of iPhones.
