Apple’s WWDC event was filled with a bunch of key announcements, including the unveiling of iOS 11 and all the new features that it brings to the fore. Apple also had a couple of hardware announcements which received the usual wave of commendation on social media. However, the company’s new Siri-powered smart speaker, known as the HomePod, was ridiculed almost immediately after its launch.
Given the simplistic white block design, some users on social media couldn’t help but compare it to toilet paper, or even a marshmallow for that matter. Some users found the uncanny resemblance with thread spindles and a cat scratching post. The HomePod was also likened to the now discontinued Mac Pro.
The HomePod is a highly functional home speaker, capable of controlling your smart home appliances and/or playing audio through connected devices using the power of Siri. Apple will start selling the HomePod later this year for $349.
