Apple Supplier, Wistron, Confirms New iPhone Will Have Wireless Charging and be Waterproof

Rumor has it that Apple plans on releasing three new iPhones this year, the iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus, and the iPhone 8.

And while the rumor mill has been anything but quiet regarding the future features of all three new devices, one Apple supplier isn’t afraid to confirm a few certain aspects. According to a report from Nikkei, Apple supplier Wistron has confirmed that at least one of the future iPhone models launched this year will not only feature waterproofing, but also boast wireless charging.

“Assembly process for the previous generations of [iPhones] have not changed much, though new features like waterproof and wireless charging now require some different testing, and waterproof function will alter the assembly process a bit,” Hwang told reporters after the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting on Wednesday.”

Unfortunately the report doesn’t indicate which device, exactly, will be getting these features. There’s a possibility that the iPhone 7s Plus is getting at least better waterproofing, and perhaps it will feature wireless charging, too. Speculation is still swirling on whether or not the iPhone 7s will get upgrades in these departments, though, but considering it’s already splash- and water-resistant, Apple will probably improve that feature with the next iteration.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 8 is expected to pick up both new features, which would certainly line up with plenty of previous rumors.

Adding IP68-rated water resistance would certainly be a good addition for Apple.
