A report from Chinese publication Economic Daily News claims that Apple has once again tapped Quanta Computers to manufacture the next-generation Apple Watch. The company was previously tasked by Apple to manufacture the first and second generation Apple Watch as well.
Surprisingly, there have been no rumors or leaks surrounding the third-generation Apple Watch. However, Quanta Computers is expecting strong results in the second half of this year thanks to the release of the third-generation Apple Watch.
Apple is reportedly planning to launch its third-generation Apple Watch in 2017 and the wearable is likely to help Quanta’s Apple Watch product line turn profitable.
With the lack of leaks surrounding the next-generation Apple Watch, it is likely that it will be sporting modest under the hood changes with a faster chipset and longer battery life. Very early rumors surrounding the smartwatch suggested that Apple will use a glass-film touch solution on it. Additionally, the smartwatch is also rumored to come with cellular connectivity.
The report also claims that Compal will be joining the Apple Watch supply chain this time around, but it will only be manufacturing older generations of the smartwatch.
If Apple does end up unveiling a third-generation Apple Watch later this year, I’d expect it to be announced alongside the trio of new iPhones in September.
