Apple Watch Shipments Expected to Reach 15 Million Units in 2017

With Apple expected to launch Apple Watch Series 3 later this year with LTE connectivity and improved battery life, analysts expect the smartwatch shipments to swell to 4.5 million units in Q4 of this year. Overall, analysts expect Apple to ship 15 million Apple Watch units this year.

Apple is the only vendor in the wearable market whose shipments keep on increasing with every passing quarter. Every other company in the wearable market including Fitbit, Xiaomi, and Samsung are seeing their sales drop with every passing quarter. Other smaller wearable vendors like Intel and Asus have completely pulled back from the wearable market as well. Android OEMs like LG and Moto which also dabbled with Android Wear running smartwatches have stopped investing in the wearable market for now due to the lack of sales.

The report from DigiTimes also says that the third-generation Apple Watch will be manufactured by Quanta Computer initially, with Compal Electronics expected to join the supply chain in 2018. Foxconn’s subsidiary Shunsin Technology has also entered the Apple Watch supply chain and will be providing system in packaging (SIP) services to Apple for the smartwatch.

The inclusion of GPS and other enhancements should help the Apple Watch post another record quarter later this year. While sales of the original Apple Watch were slow, the second-generation of the Watch released last year did particularly well and was in short supply for a few weeks after its availability due to high demand.
