Icons discovered in the latest iOS 11 beta hint at Apple bringing support for tracking new sporting activities to the Apple Watch. The new icons hint at the Apple Watch soon being able to track skipping rope, surfing, baseball, football, basketball, dancing, skiing, and bowling.
Currently, the Apple Watch is not able to track any of the sporting activities mentioned above. The icons are likely included by Apple in the latest iOS 11 beta for the Apple Watch companion app.
The Apple Watch should be able to track all the above-mentioned activities once watchOS 4 drops for it in September. Or it is possible that only the upcoming Apple Watch Series 3 with LTE connectivity will be able to track these activities as it will presumably come with new and improved motion sensors. Apple Watch Series 3 is only expected to feature cellular connectivity, with no other improvements expected for its design or battery life.
Alongside an Apple Watch with LTE connectivity, Apple will also be unveiling a trio of new iPhones and a 4K Apple TV at its September event. Carrier sources suggest that the event will likely be held by Apple on September 12, with the new iPhones going up for pre-order on September 15.
