Renders of Fitbit’s Upcoming Smartwatch Leaks

Fitbit might have been missing from the wearable market since quite a few months now but the company is working on a new smartwatch due to be released before the end of this year. Fitbit will be taking on the Apple Watch with its new smartwatch, and today, a fresh batch of photos of the wearable have been leaked online giving us a look at its ugly design.

The design of Fitbit’s upcoming smartwatch is similar to that of the Blaze, with the wearable’s display being flanked by huge bezels from all sides. Like the Blaze, the metal body of the smartwatch protrudes slightly so as to help the wearable get a better grip on your wrist for better heart rate scanning performances. Apart from the touchscreen display, the smartwatch will also come with three physical buttons — two on the right, one on the left.

As per Wareable, Fitbit will be offering its smartwatch in three different color configurations. It will presumably also come with a new infra-red based heart rate scanner that could be used for measuring oxygen levels in the blood as well. It should also be more accurate than the existing green optical sensors used by Fitbit in its wearables. Other features of the smartwatch include GPS and water-resistance for up to 50m.

While there is a lot of noise around Fitbit’s upcoming smartwatch, it remains to be seen if the product lives up to the hype. The launch of Apple Watch and the complete absence of Fitbit from the wearable market have not helped the company as its shipments and market share have fallen drastically in recent months.

If Fitbit’s upcoming smartwatch fails to generate any interest in consumers, Fitbit’s future might just be in danger. Things will get even worse for the company if Apple ends up launching the Apple Watch Series 3 later this year with LTE functionality and better battery life. As it is, Apple Watch has eaten into the sales of Fitbit and other wearable vendors.
