Soon after the launch of the iPhone 8, some owners took to forums to express their dismay that their smartphone had a crackling earpiece when talking on the phone.
The Reddit threads filled up, both with complaints and people responding to the complaints about Apple and the iPhone, and even Apple’s own official support forums started to hear the complaints from owners experiencing the problem. Now, several days after the issue came to light and it hit the news cycle, Apple has confirmed that there does appear to be an issue for “a small number” of iPhone 8/8 Plus owners.
According to Apple, they are working on a fix, which will be rolled out as part of a subsequent software update to the iPhone lineup. As it stands right now, it is not clear what is actually causing the issue, but it is good that Apple has at least confirmed it exists and that they are working on a fix.
“We are aware of the issue which is affecting customers in a small number of cases,” an Apple spokesperson said. “Our team is at work on a fix, which will be included in an upcoming software release.”
Of course, as it stands right now, there is no word from Apple just when that software update will find its way to the public. Just today, Apple released iOS 11.0.1, which is meant to address performance issues, improve them, and squash any discovered bugs since iOS 11 launched to the public earlier this month.
