Apple today released a 38-second ad video on YouTube highlighting the new Portrait Lighting mode on the iPhone 8 Plus. The new mode is among the key new improvements Apple has made to the camera of the iPhone 8 Plus over the iPhone 7 Plus.
The ad titled “Portraits of Her” stars Shannon Wise of The Shacks with “This Strange Effect” playing in the background.
Building on Portrait mode which first debuted with the iPhone 7 Plus last year, Portrait Lighting allows one to play around with the light effect in a portrait mode. The effects can be applied before taking a picture as well as after taking one.
Portrait Lighting mode is currently available in beta on the iPhone 8 Plus. It is likely that Apple will improve the feature with future software updates and drop the beta tag with the iOS 11.1 update. The company took a similar approach with Portrait mode on the iPhone 7 Plus last year.
On the iPhone 8 Plus, Portrait Lighting mode is available only for the rear camera but on the iPhone X, Portrait Lighting mode will also be available for the front camera thanks to the TrueDepth camera system.Like this post? Share it!
