The latest leak from iOS Golden Master suggests that Apple will call the OLED iPhone as the iPhone X, with the other two iPhone variants being called iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.
With this naming scheme, Apple is dumping its years of naming scheme. This will be the first time in years that Apple has skipped a ‘s’ generation of iPhone lineup.
Considering the sheer number of features that the new iPhones come with, a jump in the naming scheme does make sense. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will feature an all-glass design, wireless charging, faster A11 chooser, and more.
As for the iPhone X, the handset will feature a glass design with a bezel-less design at the front. It will also feature a vertically placed dual-camera setup at the rear, facial recognition, wireless charging, fast wired charging, and a 5.8-inch OLED display.
Apple will be announcing the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus on September 12.
The leaked iOS 11 Golden Master build has revealed plenty of details about the iPhone X and its features. The handset will feature Portrait Lighting, record videos in 4K at 60fps, and feature Face ID. The setup process of Face ID has also been detailed thanks to the leaked iOS 11 GM build. Other tidbits revealed from the leak include the iPhone 8 featuring Animoji that will allow users to create 3D animated emoji using facial expressions. The leak also provided clarity on how the status bar on the iPhone 8 will work with its notch display design.
