One of the better features for the Apple Watch is Night Stand mode, which allows for the display to showcase the time and work as an alarm clock while being charged.
This is a feature that some folks have requested could make the jump over to the iPhone lineup, and it looks like Apple has at least considered the option in the past. According to a report from MacRumors, citing an email sent by a reader which was responded to by Apple executive Craig Federighi, Night Stand mode for the iPhone X was one consideration.
“This is definitely something we’ve considered,” said Federighi, in response to an email from MacRumors reader Zain. “This probably makes the most sense for customers who charge their phone in a dock that tilts up the phone.”
It would certainly be a nice bonus, especially for those who have their phones near them while it is charging, but it looks like Apple does not see a lot of people charging their phone in a stand. According to him, it is not “currently super common” to see people charging their iPhone in a stand that stands it up at the same time.
Apple is including wireless charging support for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the iPhone X, which could mean that more people charge their phones while it’s being propped up, as long as charging pads come to market that support the orientation. Right now, most of them simply let iPhone owners lay the phone down flat on a surface.
Would you like a Nighstand Mode on the iPhone X?
