SmartLowPower Provides Power Saving Options for Your iPhone [Jailbreak Tweak]

Nothing is more frustrating than seeing your iPhone running low on battery. There are times when you forget to charge your iPhone overnight and when you’re about to head out in the morning, you notice that there’s not enough battery left. In such a situation, the best thing to do is to use your iPhone as less as possible and disable the power intensive features.

SmartLowPower is a jailbreak tweak that goes a step further to provide additional power saving options for your jailbroken iOS device. It automates the process of saving your iPhone battery by ensuring that the power intensive features are disabled when you’re not using your device.

The tweak allows you to set conditions that will automatically enable Low Power Mode and Airplane Mode to save battery. For instance, when your battery level goes below 20%, the tweak will automatically enable Low Power Mode to save as much battery as possible. In another case, when the battery goes below %5, it will automatically enable Airplane Mode to disable all wireless and cellular network connections to reduce your iPhone’s power consumption.

Once you install SmartLowPower, head to the tweak’s preferences pane in Settings to configure it. From there, you can set the conditions that will automatically enable Low Power Mode and Airplane Mode.

The preferences pane is broken down into three main sections, Low Power Mode, Airplane Mode, and Auto-Lock, each of which provide a different set of settings.

Low Power Mode

In this section, you can set the conditions that will enable Low Power Mode automatically. You get the following options:

  • Enable Low Power Mode automatically when the device is locked
  • Trigger Low Power Mode based on the battery level. If you enable this, you can specify when Low Power Mode should get enabled based on the battery level of your iPhone. For instance, if you set the Percent field to 10, then the tweak will automatically enable Low Power Mode when the battery level falls below 10%.
  • Enable Low Power Mode when the device is charging. This might help charge your iPhone faster.

If you’re not aware of what Low Power Mode, it basically reduces your iPhone’s power consumption to help save battery. When Low Power Mode is enabled, it turns off features such as mail fetch, background app refresh, automatic downloads, and some visual effects and animations.

The tweak utilizes this feature by automatically enabling Low Power Mode when you’re not using your iPhone. This helps to reduce battery consumption when your device is not in use.

Airplane Mode

Just like the previous section, this part of the tweak’s settings allows you to set the conditions that will enable Airplane Mode automatically. The options are as follows:

  • Enable Airplane Mode automatically based on the battery level of your iPhone.
  • Enable Airplane Mode when your device is charging. This might help improve the charging speed of your iPhone.

Having Airplane Mode enabled will definitely help to reduce the battery consumption of your iPhone, but it also means that you cannot make or receive phone calls and use the internet. Therefore, you may want to enable it at times when it is really required, such as when your battery level hits 10% and you don’t have a charging cable or a power bank nearby.

Auto-Lock

The tweak can also disable Auto-Lock automatically when Low Power Mode or Airplane Mode is enabled. This prevents your device from dimming and locking itself automatically after an interval of 30 seconds, which can be very annoying.

These are the three different ways in which SmartLowPower helps to reduce the battery consumption of your iPhone. Although you could do these manually, you may forget it which is why the tweak automates the process so that you don’t have to bear the burden.

If you’d like to give this tweak a try, it is available as a free package on Cydia’s BigBoss repo. The tweak supports all jailbroken iOS devices running on iOS 9 or iOS 10.
